I november 2021 fikk vi en trivelig prat med Odd Erik Olsen da vi var og viste Filmavisa Tromsø på Jadeveien Sykehjem i Kroken. Han vokste opp i Nordbyen ved den gamle Lærerskolen. I oppveksten spilte Odd Erik Olsen mye fotball. Han forteller om en fotballbane på Nansenplass, hvor de pleide å spille mange gatekamper mot Handsjordnesbukta, omtrent annen hver dag! Odd Erik spilte også en del på en litt mindre, men veldig god bane/løkke i Handsjordnesbukta, som lå oppe på plassen.

Odd forklarer også om forholdet mellom de unge i Bukta og Nordbyen. Selv sier han bare at det var «sånn …», mens han gjør en gest med hånden, fra side til side. Han legger også til at «Ali Baba var en slags leder for gjengen!» Han snakker varmt om sin far, som jobbet på lærfabrikken, og at de to var en av de første som gikk over Tromsøbrua, da den ble åpnet i 1960. Odd Erik Olsen forteller om at før brua kom, var det et mer rolig og grønt område med en stor park og med et gult gjerde.
